Applications Invited for Grants to be Awarded in 2014

OREF supports independent, peer-reviewed musculoskeletal research and education seeking clinically relevant advancements that orthopaedic surgeons can apply in daily practice to improve outcomes and help patients enjoy more of life. Research grant and award recipients are selected through OREF's independent, peer-review process, which is modeled on the process used by the National Institutes of Health. OREF invites applications for funding for qualified, clinically relevant orthopaedic research and education projects as grants and awards are funded.

  • This regional program offers residents from the various training programs an opportunity to showcase their research projects.
  • Presentations & papers are judged by well-known orthopaedic researchers or peers in the field.
  • Top three presentations are provided cash prizes.
  • Residents of invited institutions.
  • Resident must be completing research project.

ORS/OREF/AAOS New Investigator Grant Writing Workshop

  • Encourages and enhances the research abilities of young orthopaedic surgeons. The workshops provide Grant/Award recipients the opportunity to have their sample grant applications reviewed by experienced NIH-quality researchers.
  • Reviewers offer advice on ways to improve the applications to increase their chances for NIH acceptance.

OREF/ORS Basic Science Course
  • Provides attendees with the tools to explain the functions and limitations of the science behind the decisions, treatments and procedures that are performed in practice every day.
  • Topics include principles of orthopaedic surgery basic science, musculoskeletal tissue biology, and musculoskeletal pathophysiology. 
  • Knowledge of the concepts learned in this course is evaluated through the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Part I and Recertification Examinations.
  • Anyone currently in the field or entering the field of orthopaedics
  • Orthopaedic residents and fellows, practicing orthopaedic surgeons and musculoskeletal researchers.
