OREF Highlights

The value of research is not reserved only for orthopaedic surgeons. Orthopaedic industry benefits from advances in musculoskeletal care and access to bright and dedicated researchers. Many of the researchers industry currently relies on established their credentials and developed their investigational skills through OREF-funded grants.

In 1995, OREF formalized its efforts to increase financial support of research by establishing the Corporate Associates Program (CAP). These efforts encouraged the orthopaedic industry to make contributions to OREF. The program became an integral part of the overall funds raised, and it now reflects about 40% of the funds raised annually.

OREF's primary goal is to secure as much unrestricted corporate support as possible. In addition, we partner with industry to support clinically specific awards, such as the Zimmer Career Development Awards.

We also collaborate with industry on projects of mutual interest, such as our pharmacia-supported survey on practice patterns in DVT prop hylaxis, and our Resident Research Symposia, which are underwritten by industry.

RETURN TO OREF HIGHLIGHTS

"In OREF's first 50 years we have funded research that has had a tremendous impact to advance musculoskeletal care. We thank industry for its strong support of OREF, and we look forward to continued collaboration to advance the specialty of orthopaedics."
